AI Capacity for IAS Officers
Shimla, Himachal Pradesh

Addressed IAS Probationary Officers at MS-HIPA with a session on "Building AI Capacity for Governance," introducing India's future administrative leaders to the governance dimensions of artificial intelligence at the outset of their careers. The session was designed to build foundational AI literacy among the country's premier civil service cadre.
The training covered AI fundamentals, governance frameworks, procurement standards, and ethical considerations specific to the public sector context. Officers engaged with case studies examining AI deployments in various government departments and discussed the challenges of ensuring accountability, transparency, and fairness in AI-assisted decision-making.
Building AI capacity among IAS and state administrative service officers is a strategic investment in India's governance future. These officers will be responsible for evaluating AI proposals, overseeing AI deployments, and developing policies that shape how AI is used across the public sector. Equipping them with AI governance knowledge early in their careers prepares them for the challenges of leading in an AI-enabled administration.
